Jalandhar
The Dal Khalsa has asked the state government to regulate the entry of migrants to the state on the basis of availability of job. Party leaders H S Dhami and Kanwarpal Singh said unchecked influx of migrant labour was posing threat to law and order in Punjab, hinting at the recent violence in Ludhiana. According to estimates, they said, the number of migrants in the state had reached around 26 lakh, one tenth of the total population of the state. Suggesting certain measures to check the influx of migrants, they said an Act should be passed to fix the upper limit of the percentage of jobs to be given to outsiders in both private and public sectors. They also suggested monitoring of the influx, setting up registration offices at all bus stands and railway stations and removal of all illegal slums.
