The district administration has introduced new measures to control floods during the rainy season in the city.
Under the scheme,1,000 bags of sand and stone studs have been kept ready to meet any eventuality arising due to breaches in the SYL canal from 0 Point at the Punjab border to Jansui Head.
The SYL canal is usually breached when the residents of Punjab release excess rainwater by cutting the embankments.
According to instructions issued by Deputy Commissioner S P Srow to the Irrigation department, the sand bags with stones will be kept ready at every half a kilometer and will be rushed to plug breaches as soon as they occur.
The flow of water could also be diverted.
Two tractor trailers with five persons each will be kept ready so that the sand bags and stones can be dispatched at a short notice.
Srow has also ordered the executive officers of municipal councils of Ambala City and Ambala Sadar to ensure clearing of all drains and nullahs before the onset of monsoon.
He also ordered the Irrigation department officials and SYL canal supervising engineers that all drains adjoining to the canal should be cleared of weeds and bushes within time so that the flow of the canal does not get obstructed.
