CPM workers protest govt policies outside DC’s office

Hundreds of workers associated with the CPI(M) on Friday protested outside the DC’s office,raising slogans against the government and blaming the Congress government in the state for having failed to curb unemployment and provide basic infrastructure to poor people.

Hundreds of workers associated with the CPI(M) on Friday protested outside the DC’s office,raising slogans against the government and blaming the Congress government in the state for having failed to curb unemployment and provide basic infrastructure to poor people.

The protest by workers of the CPI (M) was led by the party’s state secretary,Inderjit Singh,here on Friday. The protestors included a large number of women as well. The district administration had deployed the police force in strength to prevent any untoward incident.

The protest continued for several hours by the party. Inderjit Singh said,“The Congress government has failed on all fronts. It has failed to provide employment to the people and has also not been able to provide basic infrastructure to the people.”

The CPI (M) secretary also added that the Congress is only doing the work of its workers and only those pockets which are the traditional strongholds of the party have seen development. “Other areas are being ignored by the government,” he said.

Singh said that the condition of the health institutions in the state has turned from bad to worse,adding that moreover,the Congress government both in the state as well as the Centre,is espousing the policy of privatisation which is only leaving thousands of youth jobless.

“Things have become difficult for the people as the city is not only being subjected to frequent power cuts,but is also facing acute water shortage,” said Singh.

The protest continued for several hours and was only lifted after the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM),R K Singh,assured them that he will fix a meeting of the protesters with the Deputy Commissioner,Ashima Brar,so that they could air their grievances.

The party has already submitted a memorandum of demands to the DC on May 1 stressing on the need for checking privatisation.
