SHIMLA: Individuals and groups who contribute to bird habitat conservation will now be rewarded after a Shimla-based NGO,Himachal Birds,has decided to institute two annual awards for conservation efforts. The NGO,headed by serving IPS officer Somesh,said the awards will be conferred during the environment week in October,this year. Nominations can be filed by individuals and organisations by August 15. After receiving the nominations,a jury will finalise the winners. The organisation will also release a book on the survey it conducted of the species of birds in Shimla. Nearly 125 bird species were identified during the initiative.

Blood donation

SHIMLA: GANDHIAN and social thinker S N Subba Rao today called for strengthening India’s unity through voluntary blood donations and saving lives of those in need of blood during emergencies. About 105 people,including high court Judge Sanjay Karol,donated blood at a camp organised by Umang Foundation here.

HAS results

SHIMLA: FOUR girls are among list of selected candidates for Himcahal Pradesh Administrative Service (HAS),the results of which were declared by the Himachal Pradesh Public Services Commission this evening,along with selected candidates for Himachal Police Service and block development officers. The interviews of the candidates were held between June 23 and July 2.

Rohtak-Delhi rail line

CHANDIGARH: Member of Parliament Deepender Singh Hooda today told reporters that 95 per cent electrification work of Rohtak-Delhi railway line has been completed and the remaining work would be finished soon.
