At Gun Point

Dinkar Waghmare never wanted to be a cop. It was his mom’s idea and well, mothers can be really pushy when they want to.

Dinkar Waghmare never wanted to be a cop. It was his mom’s idea and well, mothers can be really pushy when they want to. Still attached to the proverbial umbilical cord, our man Waghmare signed up,joined the force and lazed around till his beloved gun with Hanumanji’s sticker on it,gets lost. “The gun’s on the run,and here we’re,sniffing around for it,” actors Shreyas Talpade (looking quite natty in his police officer’s uniform) and Mahi Gill scout the city, first at Gitjanjali Jewels in Sector 22 and then at Centra Mall for their gun. Stars of the soon to be released movie ‘Aage Se Right’,the two were in town gunning for their film.

“Aage Se Right is the story of chance,co-incidence and real life humour. It’s about a cop and terrorist and their life spread over five days of panic, chaos and mayhem, how they go through a series of events that are not in their control,” Shreyas talks about this edgy contemporary satire of the chaotic times that we live in where “Aage se right” is not always right.

“It’s a diverse film with perfect comic timing, and the way it unfolds is quite exciting. I bet you’ll be glued to your seats,” adds Shreyas, who just did a ‘gun visarjan’ at Ganesh Chaturthi. While he’s playing what Mahi rightly puts as – jhalla cop,the Chandigarh bred actress will portray the role of a ‘glamourous, very loud and colourful reporter who follows Waghmare while he searches for his gun’. “Trust me,it’s difficult playing you guys,” she refers to the scribes.

A quirky situational comedy directed by Indrajit Nattoji, the film is not only about a cop who loses his gun. “It’s about a terrorist who loses his heart too,and how Waghmare ends up solving a high profile crime,” tells Shreyas, who’ll also be seen David Dhawan’s next. “That will be a different role, pretty dramatic,” says the man who was labelled as ‘Serious Talpade’ post Iqbal. “I had to break the mould for people had started typecasting me in heavy characters,” Talpade signed comedies,light-hearted films beside landing himself a role which ‘exposed’ his true talent to the industry. “Behrupiya in Dor. People had their doubts whether I’ll be able to pull it off or not. If Iqbal was the closest to my heart,Dor’s Behrupiya will always be life altering,” smiles Shreyas, who was also signed up to play junior MF Husain by the artist himself. “It’s fate is yet to be decided,” he says.

Character actors who shot into the limelight courtesy some very unusual films, both Mahi and Shreyas feel that it’s the story that’s the hero today. “While a hero or a protagonist’s role is uni-dimensional,a character’s part is always dynamic and memorable,” reflects Shreyas, looking forward to playing a villain, and maybe land up playing Kishore Kumar when they make a biopic on him.

If it’s not Hindi films, then it’s the Marathi theatre and films that keep Shreyas busy. In fact,he even produced a film under his Affluence Films Private Limited. So,will he produce a Hindi one too? “We’re looking at scripts and stories, let’s see,” he says. In the meantime,Mahi’s announced that she’ll do any film that has Anurag Kashyap’s stamp on it. But for now,it’s UTV Spotboy’s ‘Aage Se Right’,‘Paan Singh Tomar’ with Irrfan,‘Surmayee Shaam’ with Naseeruddin Shah and Kay Kay Menon and one with Arbaaz Khan.

Bling Bling!

Shreyas Talpade and Mahi Gill made a quick stop at Gitanjali Jewels store in Sector 22 in the city today. “I am very excited at the way the whole promotion campaign is running, thanks to Gitanjali Group,” said Shreyas while Mahi was busy checking out the new jewellery pieces at the store. “I really like the jewellery designs here…there’s a lot of variety from ethnic designs to daily wear jewellery pieces to party wear.”
