Action Replay

It is a grand heist, the classic case of the perfect crime. The only glitch is that someone has stolen the thief’s memory and he has only the proverbial six days to save himself and the world.

It is a grand heist, the classic case of the perfect crime. The only glitch is that someone has stolen the thief’s memory and he has only the proverbial six days to save himself and the world. Now,before you jump to any conclusions and start comparing the entire plot with that of the Bourne series,XIII or Ben Affleck’s Paycheck, here’s a clarification from the producer,Tips’s Kumar Taurani. “Prince — It’s Showtime is nothing like those films. It is bigger than our earlier film Race, full of stunts and special effects.” Aware of the fact that action doesn’t always sell,Taurani roped in Race’s writer Shiraz Ahmed for the story and got it edited at a Paris studio. The film is to be released on April 9.

“A film is a brand, and one has to build on it,” explains Taurani. On his choice of Vivek Oberoi as an action star,he says: “I wanted someone for a whole year and Oberoi fitted the bill.”

Directed by Kookie V Gulati, the film, says Oberoi is a very important for his career.

“Whereas shootings usually get over in three months,I gave five months just for training alone,” he says. Oberoi went through stunt biking sessions with Alan Amin, martial arts classes with a Thai expert, parkour with an expert from England and extensive cable training. “Every morning I was skateboarding across potholed roads of Mumbai tied to a motorbike,” he laughs, talking about his refusal to have a double perform the stunts, even if that meant jumping from rooftops or dodging bullets in the streets of South Africa. “I am an adrenaline junkie and I did all this to be proficient, prepared and confident for the actual shot,” he adds.

After several setbacks in his career,Oberoi feels that Prince will prove to be the defining moment for him. “It is about an intelligent thief being chased by national and international security agencies. It is a proper entertainer,” he says.

Oberoi will also be seen in an upcoming Government of India and Wizcraft designed 200 crore-Broadway show,Kingdom of Dreams. There is also the much-awaited Ram Gopal Varma project Rakta Charitra. “I return to work with him after seven years and this biopic is worth it,” he says.

Co-actor Neeru Bajwa is rather demure about her sizzling role in the movie. “I’m one of the love interests and have my share of action,” she says. As for Taurani,he has six more films lined up. “Gulati will direct a couple of them. I have Raj Kumar Santoshi doing one,Vinnil Markin another and Aziz Mirza’s son will direct one,” he signs off.
