(Representational Photo) RAINS returned to Gujarat after nearly a month of dry spell on Thursday evening, with light showers even witnessed in Ahmedabad and Surat. The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of “very heavy rains” for five districts in South Gujarat for the next two days starting Friday.
“Very heavy rains” have been predicted for Surat, Narmada, Dangs, Tapi, Navsari and Valsad districts on Friday and Saturday. Similar warning has also been issued for the Union Territory of Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli (DNH) for the two-day period. Thursday too saw very heavy rainfall in isolated places in DNH, while heavy rainfall occured in districts of Navsari and Valsad.
During this period, “heavy rains” have been forecast for the districts of Dahod, Panchmahal, Chotta Udepur and Bharuch, while light thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 30-40 kilometers per hour have been forecast for the districts of Saurashtra region like Porbandar, Botad, Dwarka, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Junagadh, Rajkot, and in the Union Territory of Diu.
Ahmedabad and other districts in North and Central Gujarat are expected to get rains during the next two days.
Rainfall also occurred at many places in South Gujarat and North Gujarat regions.
The people of Surat had on Thursday late afternoon got great relief from scorching heat, with moderate rainfall. The rainfall also ahd been witnessed in different districts like Navsari, Valsad, Tapi and Dangs in South Gujarat.
Pandals prepared for installation of Ganesh Idol also had been wet due to the rainfall, and the organisers were busy putting the plastic on the top of the pandal to save the decorations inside the pandals.
As per details from flood control room, the rainfall measured on Thursday in Surat city and different talukas are Surat city 10 mm, while highest rainfall had been recorded in Umarpada taluaka recorded to 98 mm, followed by Kamrej 16 mm and Palsana 14 mm, Bardoli 19 mm.
The water level in Ukai dam measured on Thursday evening is 334.54 feet with inflow of water of 33454 cusecs and outflow of 20188 cusecs.
Apar from Surat, Navsari district also had recorded heavy rainfall on Thursday. The rainfall recorded in Vansda taluka in the district had recorded 94 mm, followed by Khergam 67 mm, Chikhli 55 mm, Gandevi 22 mm, Navsari 10 mm.
Similarly in Valsad district, highest rainfall has been recorded in Dharampur and Pardi talukas with 84 mm in each taluka followed by Valsad taluka 79 mm, Kaprada 77 mm, Vapi 65 mm.
Apart from this moderate rainfall has been recorded in Dangs and Tapi districts in South Gujarat.
