Cabinet clears S Bhattacharya as CIL chief

The public enterprises selection board (PESB) had selected Bhattacharya a month ago for the job.

State-run Coal India (CIL) Limited will finally get a full-time chairman in Sutirtha Bhattacharya with the Union Cabinet clearing him for the position.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 19 cleared Bhattacharya, a 1985-batch IAS officer, for the top job among 10 candidates.

This ends six months of uncertainty ever since S Narsing Rao quit the position in May to join the Telangana government.

The public enterprises selection board (PESB) had selected Bhattacharya a month ago for the job.

Bhattacharya is currently serving as the CMD of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). His predecessor Rao too served in the same capacity in SCCL, a senior coal ministry official told The Indian Express.
