Mysore(Karnataka)/ Vellore(Tamil Nadu), Feb 16 (ANI): The last rites of Sepoy Mahesha PN, who was buried under the February 3 Siachen avalanche, will be held today at his native town Mysore in Karnataka. A sharp-shooter, Mahesha of the 19th Battalion of Madras Regiment served for 11 years in the Indian army. Last rites of another braveheart from the same battalion, Havildar Elumalai M, a Non commissioned Officer (NCO) of the same battalion are to be held today at Vellore in Tamil Nadu. The bodies of nine fallen soldiers of Madras regiment, who were buried alive under the glacier, were earlier flown to the national capital on Monday.

The mortal remains of the martyrs arrived in New Delhi on Monday as they were held up in Siachen for 12 days accounting to the poor weather conditions.

Dharwad, Feb 12 (ANI): Last rites of Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad, who passed away on Thursday morning, were performed with full state honours, including a 21-gun salute, in his hometown Dharwad of Karnataka on Friday. Hanamanthappa was rescued alive from under 35 feet of snow six days after his post in Siachen was hit by a glacier.

New Delhi, Feb 11 (ANI): The Research and Referral Hospital of the Indian Army on Thursday said Lance Naik Hanamanthapa's neuro functions and heart functions worsened despite all precautions, eventually leading to his death. R.R. Hospital Director Lt. Gen. Duhan said when they received Lance Naik Hanamthappa in an intubated state on February 9, his body temperature was normal but his blood pressure was very low. Lt. Gen Duhan further said that all these cells, which had already become fragile and consisted of toxin because of working in very cold environment without glucose and oxygen, had produced a lot amount of toxins. Four days after he was found alive in Siachen, Lance Naik Hanamanthappa died in the hospital on Thursday morning.

Dharwad (Karnataka), Feb 11 (ANI): The family of Siachen lone survivor Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad was in deep shock after hearing the news of his death. His father broke down after he heard the news. His neighbours were seen trying to comfort him. Lance Naik Hanamanthappa, who survived for six days after being buried under a 25-feet avalanche, died at the RR Army Hospital in New Delhi on Thursday, leaving the nation in deep shock. Expressing grief over the tragic death, one of the villagers said the entire village was praying for him to come back, but nothing is big in front of god’s desire.
Soldiers train for avalanche rescue at high altitude in Gulmarg

Gulmarg, Feb 10 (ANI): After nine Indian Army soldiers died in the Siachen glacier avalanche on February 3, High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) trainers held training rescue sessions for soldiers at high altitudes near Line of Control (LOC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Gulmarg region. Major Varun Khujuria, instructor at HAWS, stated the soldiers deployed on the high altitudes are given proper training for handling natural calamities. He added that only HAWS carries out rescue operations throughout the Himalayas. Ajpal Singh, a trainee, said that it's a nine-week basic course, which trains the soldiers to survive on higher altitudes. Proper knowledge of skiing equipments is also given to the soldiers.

Dharwad, Feb 09 (ANI): The family members of Lance Naik Hanamanthappa, who was on Monday miraculously found alive after an avalanche in the Siachen glacier, said they were very glad and waiting anxiously to see him. Lance Naik’s father said they are very happy and waiting to see him. His nephew, who had lost all hopes, said it was blessings of the entire villagers that Naik fought with the extremely difficult conditions and was found alive. Hanamanthappa, who is on ventilator, arrived at the Palam airbase from where he was shifted to the Army Research and Referral Hospital.
