Srinagar, Feb 22 (ANI): The nation paid tribute to the sacrifices of 9 Paramilitary Army Captain Tushar Mahajan and Lance Naik Commando Om Prakash, who were martyred during the ongoing encounter in Pampore in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, as a wreath laying ceremony was held for the bravehearts in Srinagar on Monday. 26-year-old Captain Tushar Mahajan, who hailed from Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir, was leading his team in the ongoing operation in Pampore when he was martyred. 32-year-old late Lance Naik Om Prakash hailed from Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, and is survived by his parents, wife and two daughters, aged 7 and 3.

Shimla, Feb 15 (ANI): A street play was staged outside the Gaiety theatre in Shimla to spread awareness on women rights and urged people to support the cause. Artists also held a flash mob and sang songs calling for protection of rights for women. The awareness campaign was organised by the Young Working Women Christian Association under the banner of ‘One Billion Rising’, a global movement that aims to end violence against women. The artists believed the skit, drama, and dances were the right medium to make society aware of such serious issues.

Shimla/ Uttarakhand, Feb 15 (ANI): People in Shimla and upper reaches of Uttarakhand on Monday struggled to carry out their daily activities after temperatures plummeted due to a fresh spell of snowfall in the region. People lit bonfires and wore layers of clothes to keep themselves warm. The minimum temperature recorded in Shimla, which has been receiving snowfall since Saturday, was 3° Celsius and would further dip at night. Shimla is experiencing severe cold conditions throughout the day and night. It has become very difficult to work. We have to keep sitting next to bonfires to keep ourselves warm.In Uttarakhand, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) personnel were seen clearing the snow from the roads using bulldozers in Gangotri region.

Shimla, Feb 09 (ANI): The higher reaches of different districts in Himachal Pradesh, including the capital city Shimla, are experiencing heavy snowfall. The state is reeling under intense cold wave due to heavy snowfall in the region since Sunday. Shimla, Kufri and several other towns in the area are wrapped in a thick white blanket of snow while the mid and lower hills experienced moderate to heavy rain. According to reports, the mercury has dipped by several degrees across the state after change in the weather. The Met department has predicted dry weather during next 24 hours.

Shimla, Jan 10 (ANI): Cold wave conditions prevailed over most parts of hilly region affecting normal lives of people in Shimla. Local residents and workers in Shimla were seen gathered around bonfires on Sunday to find respite from bone chilling cold. Shimla recorded a minimum temperature of minus two degrees Celsius on Sunday. The picture was no different at Rajouri town in Jammu and Kashmir which recorded a minimum temperature of three degrees Celsius on Sunday. People were seen dressed in woolen garments to prevent the chilling bite of the cold.

Six shops gutted in fire in Shimla

Shimla, Jan 08 (ANI): At least six shops were gutted when a massive fire broke out in the market area in Shimla with good worth in millions of rupees lost as well. The fire was reported at around 3.30 a.m. in the morning. Three fire tenders rushed to the spot to control the flames. The police also reached the spot as soon as they received the information. One person was injured in the fire but no loss of life has been reported so far.
