The 78th Army Day was celebrated with solemnity and pride at the Army Training Command (ARTRAC), Shimla, on Saturday with Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla attending the function as the chief guest.
Addressing officers and personnel, the Governor lauded the Indian Army for its “supreme sacrifices, unmatched courage and unwavering resolve” in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, unity and integrity. He said that Army Day was not merely a ceremonial occasion but a reminder of the Army’s “steadfast commitment to national security”.
Highlighting emerging security challenges, he said modern warfare now extends to cyber and information domains, making the role of ARTRAC increasingly significant. He noted that the leadership and training imparted at ARTRAC not only strengthens operational capabilities but also instils ethical and human values among soldiers.
The Governor said the Union Budget 2025–26 allocation of Rs 6.81 lakh crore for defence, reflecting a nearly 9.5 per cent increase, underscored India’s long-term strategic vision. He also highlighted increased budgetary support for the Agniveer Scheme, progress in defence indigenisation, and welfare measures for ex-servicemen, including revisions to One Rank One Pension (OROP) and expanded coverage under the ECHS.
Earlier, ARTRAC GOC-in-C Lt Gen Devender Sharma welcomed the Governor and highlighted the Army’s preparedness, while Lt Gen S S Dahiya, Chief of Staff, presented the vote of thanks. Several ministers, MPs, senior civil and military officers were present.
