ABOUT Rani Mukerji

Rani Mukerji: A Versatile Career Spanning Decades Rani Mukerji, a prominent figure in Hindi cinema, has consistently demonstrated versatility throughout her career, garnering eight Filmfare Awards and achieving recognition as a leading and high-earning actress of the 2000s. Born into the influential Mukherjee-Samarth family, her acting debut came in her father's Bengali film Biyer Phool (1996). She achieved early commercial success with Ghulam (1998), followed by a breakthrough performance in the iconic romantic drama Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). After a brief period of less successful ventures, Mukerji's career trajectory shifted with Yash Raj Films' Saathiya (2002). This marked the beginning of a string of commercially successful romantic roles in films like Chalte Chalte (2003), Hum Tum (2004), Veer-Zaara (2004), and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006). Her range extended beyond romantic roles, showcasing her talent in Yuva (2004) as an abused wife, and the critically acclaimed Black (2005), portraying a deaf and blind woman. A period of collaboration with Yash Raj Films yielded mixed results, leading to critical scrutiny of her role choices. However, Mukerji's career resurgence began with the powerful biographical thriller No One Killed Jessica (2011). Subsequent successes include the thrillers Talaash (2012), Mardaani (2014), and Mardaani 2 (2019), as well as the comedy-drama Hichki (2018), her highest-grossing film to date. Her recent film, Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway (2023), further solidified her position. Beyond her acting career, Mukerji actively participates in humanitarian work, advocating for women and children's rights. She is married to filmmaker Aditya Chopra and has a daughter.
