One of the eight founding teams of the IPL, Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab), have failed to make the Playoffs for ten straight seasons since the 2014 edition, where they made their solitary appearance in the final. A pulsating chase by Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens stole Punjab's thunder in the final as they settled for the runners-up title. The only other time the Punjab franchise made the knockouts was in the inaugural edition.
Inconsistencies in team personnel have marred PBKS over the years. While Ricky Ponting as their new head coach, the team will hope to find a way to break the rut of failing to make the top four. The team has retained only two uncapped Indian players -- Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh -- ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Punjab Kings will enter the auction with the largest purse of Rs 110.50 crore.
Well this has been the trend for Punjab Kings in the IPL history. They always build a solid looking team, which looks incredible on paper, but over the years, they have been their own worst enemy. The team management will have to ensure that the volcano of talent at their disposal doesn’t explode and will have to take it match-by-match as the tournament progresses.
