Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, is a figure who constantly walks the tightrope between the worlds of business and politics. His career path, marked by both success and controversy, has kept him in the spotlight for years.
Born in 1977, Karti completed his studies in the US and returned to India to pursue a career in management consulting. He established India Management Consultants (IMC), which garnered contracts from various companies, including some with alleged links to his father's political career. This raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest, a shadow that would continue to follow him.
Karti's most significant brush with controversy came in the form of the INX Media case. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) accused him of receiving kickbacks from INX Media in exchange for his father's help in securing foreign investment approvals during his tenure as Finance Minister. He has denied all charges, calling them politically motivated. The case remains under trial, with Karti spending time in jail before being released on bail in 2022.
Despite the ongoing legal battle, Karti has continued his business ventures. He established a consultancy firm in the UK and has investments in various sectors, including real estate and hospitality.
