Consumer forum: Rs 10 packaging charges cost burger eatery Rs 15,500 in fine in Mohali

As per complaint, Pancy Singh of Chandigarh alleged that he purchased one Hardyz Fried Chicken Burger from Hardyz Burger at Mohali by paying Rs 312. Singh alleged that at the time of delivery of the burger, she was charged an extra Rs 10 in addition to the price of the burger.

Shoe store charges Re 1 for carry bag, directed to refund Rs. 2

Observing that charges for carry bags cannot be separately foisted upon the consumers and would amount to overcharging, the Chandigarh Consumer Forum directed a shoe store in Chandigarh to refund Rs. 2 wrongly charged for the carry bags and pay Rs. 1,000 as compensation and Rs. 500 as cost of litigation.

In the forum, the counsel for Hot Millions submitted that the complainants were charged for the ‘packing’ which is legal. Restaurant can charge for extra services offered to their customers whereas the complainants voluntarily paid the said amount and did not raise any objection on the spot.
