Ready to discuss Sushma in Parliament, but not Raje, Chouhan: Arun Jaitley

Arun Jaitley took a swipe at the Opposition saying that the government is ready to give time till 2 pm if they are not prepared for a discussion.

The government today made it clear that it is ready for a discussion on the controversy over Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj’s alleged assistance for former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi in securing travel documents in London, but maintained that other issues linked to chief ministers of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh cannot be taken up in Parliament as they are state issues.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the opposition is not ready for any debate. “The government is ready for a discussion in any form at any time. But the distinct and clear impression that they don’t want a discussion,” Jaitley told reporters after the Rajya Sabha witnessed abrupt adjournments twice.

Jaitley took a swipe on the Opposition saying that the government is ready to give time till 2 pm if they are not prepared.

The Congress has given a notice to suspend all business and discuss the controversies linked to Sushma Swaraj, Shivraj Singh and Vasundhara Raje.

Meanwhile, Swaraj told the Indian Express that she was ready to make a statement on the issue. “I am ready for making a statement. I was ready even today, ” she said.

Jaitley said the government is ready for a discussion structured around Sushma’s statement or debate which will be followed by her statement.
