The AAP student wing, Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS), has said it will contest the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) polls this year only if the university ensures strict adherence to the Lyngdoh committee guidelines.
“We want to contest and are open to the idea of doing it again, but only if the elections are monitored properly by the body concerned and the Lyngdoh committee guidelines are adhered to, as is required.
Else, elections on campus are nothing but a joke,” said CYSS vice-president Anmol Panwar.

The committee, headed by former Chief Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh, had recommended a cap of Rs 5,000 on election expenses per candidate, besides formulating other rules and regulations for cleaning up campus politics.
The Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti had contested DUSU elections last year, but was unable to win a single seat. “Give us a fair mechanism… that system does not exist right now. Despite a ban, motorcades do rounds in the university before elections. Everyone sees this… but the university officials don’t do anything about it,”
said Panwar.
The ABVP criticised the CYSS stance. “The campus is already inundated with posters of (Chief Minister Arvind) Kejriwal and CYSS candidates.
The CYSS, at least, should not talk about enforcing Lyngdoh Committee recommendations. They violated the recommendations the most the last time they contested elections,” said Saket Bahuguna, national media coordinator, ABVP.
