The much awaited romantic number sung by Atif Aslam, Tere naam doon from It’s Entertainment was released online last week. Interestingly, this is the first time Aslam has lent his voice to Kumar. The entire video, shot in slow motion, has been picturised on lead pair Kumar and Tamannaah Bhatia. The song has been composed by Sachin – Jigar and penned by Priya Panchal. It’s a soft romantic number with a touch of contemporary beats, which has been crooned very well by Aslam. The supporting vocals are provided by Shalmali Kholgade, who has done a decent job. We like the blend of different instruments, like the tabla, grand violin and even the keyboard. Aslam’s alaap  creates magic. It’s a feel-good number, which is definitely worth a hear.

Sufiana evening

Banyan Tree’s Khusrau – Kabir festival, dedicated to great poets Hazrat Amir Khusrau and saint Kabir, enthralled an audience full of music lovers in Mumbai last week. The festival, in its sixth edition, saw performances by an array of musicians, based on the work of the two poetic genuises. While the contemporary presentation saw singers Shilpa Rao, Nandini Srikar and Suchi performing their own creative interpretations of the poems, Padma Shri Prahlad Singh Tipanya & group from Madhya Pradesh combined the singing and explanation of Kabir’s bhajans in folk style. A Qawalli performance by the Sabri brothers from Jaipur also kept the audience entertained.
