According to a Truth Social post by Trump, 78-year-old Reiner passed away due to the anger he caused others through his incurable affliction with Trump Derangement Syndrome.
“A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS,” Trump said.
Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) is a derivative of Bush Derangement Syndrome, which was coined by psychiatrist and conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer in 2002 to describe criticism of then-president George Bush.
Many Trump supporters and the US President himself have used TDS to attack his critics, saying that they suffer from a “mental condition in which a person has been driven effectively insane due to their dislike of Donald Trump, to the point at which they will abandon all logic and reason.”
According to Trump, Reiner “was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before.”
Trump ended the post saying, “May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”
Reiner was a harsh critic of Trump and had called him “mentally unfit” to be president and the “single most unqualified human being to ever assume the presidency of the United States.”

In a 2024 interview ahead of the US Presidential elections, Reiner told The Guardian that Trump’s election could lead to America turning from a democracy into an “autocracy.”
He also referred to Trump as a “criminal,” and that he “basically lies every minute of his life.”
In September, after ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel, Reiner, who appeared on CNN, had said: “This may be the last time you ever see me because… there’s only a couple of us that are speaking out in this hard way. And I, we, hope and we know that there will be others.”
He added, “Trump has declared war on this democracy. He throws people out of the country without due process. He takes funds that were appropriated by Congress, refuses to distribute them, in clear contradiction to the Constitution, the separation of powers.”
