Election Commission Youth Icon Muskan Negi is HP’s first fully visually impaired woman to earn PhD

Singer, election commission Youth Icon Muskan Negi became the first 100 per cent visually impaired woman from Himachal Pradesh to earn a PhD.

Negi was on Monday awarded her doctoral degree by Himachal Pradesh University, where she completed her PhD in music under the supervision of Mrityunjay Sharma. She is currently serving as an assistant professor at Government College for Girls (RKMV), Shimla.

An EC Youth Icon since 2017, Negi has received several national and state-level honours in music and has performed across India and in five US states.

Sharma said Negi showed exceptional dedication while pursuing her MA, MPhil and PhD in music, overcoming visual impairment with determination and discipline. He said she made extensive use of e-resources through laptops and mobile phones equipped with talking software, as reliance on Braille material in higher education remains limited.
