Action taken against 21 traffic cops in Pune

According to Awad, the traffic police have been told that while on duty at crowded junctions they should not leave the place and handle the traffic situation properly.

Action was taken against as many as 21 traffic policemen for failing to perform their duties properly. Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Sarang Awad took action in this regard.

According to Awad, the traffic police have been told that while on duty at crowded junctions they should not leave the place and handle the traffic situation properly. However, in the last two months, when the DCP visited different traffic junctions, he found that some officers on duty where not seen at the junctions.

If there is any problem, the officer on duty at a traffic junction is supposed to inform his seniors before leaving the spot. But some of them left the spot without informing senior officers. Also, some traffic officers kept their cell phones switched off, while some did not reply to the calls made by the traffic control room during duty hours.

After a detailed inquiry, Awad found 21 traffic policemen at fault and action was initiated against them, which includes a fine of Rs 200 to Rs 500.
