Stand-up comedy is one of the fastest growing subcultures in the country, just ask AIB. On Saturday, Jerry Seinfeld — one of the first personalities who exposed the country to the form with his eponymous show, Seinfeld — is due for a performance in the city at National Sports Club of India (NSCI) as part of Stage42 festival. When the news was announced mid-February, there was massive excitement about the show. But that sentiment was marred when the price for the tickets was announced. It is unprecedented to price the tickets for a single act at Rs 7,500 for the regular folk and Rs 12,500 for people who want to be at spitting distance from the stage. By the beginning of March, many people started complaining about the price of tickets. Soon, a compromise was reached. Askme.com, the online classified site, stepped in and is offering the tickets at 50 per cent of the price. Vijay Nair, CEO, OML says, “There were a lot of people who found it unaffordable. Also, askme.com decided to buy out all the tickets of the Rs 7,500 range. The other two, Rs 10,000 and Rs 12,500 are almost sold out.”
