The Meghwadi police have registered a case of murder against unknown persons and launched a manhunt based on technical evidence and human intelligence.
THE MUMBAI crime branch Thursday conducted raids at the offices of nine travel agents in Nagpada for allegedly duping people by promising them jobs abroad.
The police seized 238 passports from these shops apart from other documents like ‘offer letters’ that were found in these offices. An officer said two owners of the agencies have been arrested and seven others have been named as wanted accused in the case.
A case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Immigration Act. An official said they received a complaint from the Protector of Emigrants (POE) office in Bandra on behalf of the Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi that several tours and travels in the Nagpada area had been duping Indian citizens.
The complaint said even though these travel agents did not have the necessary government license from the MEA required to send Indian citizens abroad for employment, they had been defrauding citizens by illegally promising them jobs and taking money.
Based on the information, an operation was carried out by a joint team of the crime branch and the POE. During the operation, the joint team seized a total of 238 Indian passports and a large number of items including employment offer letters, logbooks, visiting cards, rubber stamps, and forms and other documents used for foreign employment.
A case under Section 318 (2), 318 (4) of the Indian Penal Code along with Section 10, 24 of the Immigration Act 1983 was registered at Nagpada Police Station and the Mumbai crime branch was asked to carry out further probe in the matter.
