Acting on the directions of the University Grants Commission ( UGC), Delhi University will include a ‘none of the above’ (NOTA) option in the electronic voting machines (EVMs) for the Delhi University Student Union ( DUSU) elections this year.

The Delhi University polls are scheduled to take place on September 9. The UGC had also sent a circular to DU last year, but the option was not included as authorities said the EVMs had been prepared prior to receiving the communication.

After orders received by NGT, the elections this year will also see candidates being allowed to stick only two handwritten posters, instead of hundreds of printed ones, the office of the Chief Electoral officer confirmed.

Candidates will also have to give an undertaking that they will respond to every mail from the chief election officer (CEO) within 24 hours. Unlike DU, JNU students already get the option to exercise the NOTA option during student union elections. The CEO is also setting up college-level monitoring cells to keep the university up to date on violations of the model code of conduct.
