Former Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has resigned as the state's Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) after receiving RTI applications on his brother's activities. Shyamkanu Mahanta, who organized the festival where Zubeen Garg died, has been arrested and is currently in jail. The Mahanta family is influential, with another brother serving as the Gauhati University Vice-Chancellor.
