After a long sabbatical and two children,Raveena Tandon returns to the big screen with Amitabh Bachchan and a dance number in hand

Of all the films she has been part of,Raveena Tandon is best remembered for her two foot-tapping dance numbers — Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast from Mohra and Sheher Ki Ladki from Rakshak. Small wonder then that her comeback film,Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap, has a song created just for her. Titled Chandigarh Di Star,it will have Raveena grooving to some contemporary hip-hop moves. “It is the introduction to my character in the film. I play the role of a woman who believes that the whole of Ludhiana and Chandigarh is crazy for her,” she laughs. The character also wears loud colours and mismatched clothes.

The song wasn’t a part of this movie until the final edit stages. When the movie reached its completion stage, the whole cast and crew was happy with the way Tandon’s character had developed and wanted to pep it up further with a song. “I latched on to the opportunity. I had honestly forgotten my last dance on the big screen,” says the 36-year-old actress.

Tandon took a sabbatical from films almost five years ago and was busy taking care of her family, especially her two children — Rasha and Ranbir. “I never thought I would do movies again. I have never been very ambitious or competitive. I was happy seeing my kids grow up. I did this movie only for Bachchan saab,” smiles Tandon, who shared screen space with the actor in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Aks.

Her character in Bbuddah borrows from her real life infatuation with Bachchan. “I play the role of a woman who has this huge crush on Amitji’s character and he treats me like a kid. In real life too,I am in constant awe of him. Despite doing three films with him,I have never been able to have a proper conversation with him. I go into a tizzy whenever I see him,” says a starry-eyed Tandon.

Besides the Bachchan factor, one wonders if the Bollywood limelight also drew her back to Bollywood. “Not at all,” she says. “In today’s day, media will never let people forget you completely. There are people waiting to see which party you are going to and what you are wearing.” To keep her busy, she also has reality shows on television, which provide her with a much-needed break from being a homemaker. “I like doing those because I am required to shoot only once a week and I can also give time to my family.”

Tandon’s last month has been pretty hectic with the shoots of Bbuddah and Comedy Ka Mahamuqabla coinciding. With both shoots more or less wrapping up now,she is looking forward to becoming a homebody again,at least for a while. “I will go back to my kids, take them swimming and for football. And I will read to them,” she says.
