A eunuch whose spectacular victory as mayor of Sagar six months ago was taken as an expression of anger by voters against political parties, has joined the BJP.

Kamla Buas victory in December 2009 had stunned political pundits because the 55-year-old had won the mayoral elections as an independent candidate by the highest margin ever.

Kamlas decision appears to have been prompted because of her inability to get works done due to lack of support from others and also due to a slew of court cases, including one by the BJPs defeated candidate, challenging her caste.

The BJP indicated that it was considering withdrawing the court case now.

Parties other than the BJP described Buas decision as selfish and an act of betrayal with those who had voted for her and against the ruling party. Some even sought her resignation.

Kamla, meanwhile, justified her decision saying she was more concerned about the citys development than anything else. Sagar BJP MLA Shailesh Jain said development in the region had come to a standstill in the past six months.

Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Gopal Bhargava said Bua had no political future that would benefit the BJP,but the party took the decision in the citys interest.

When elections were held,Bua was dismissed as a weak candidate. But voters anger against political parties, especially the then ruling BJP,resulted in her getting a massive 64,683 votes to the BJP candidates tally of 21,250 votes.
