Shilpa Shetty’s parents placed conditions on marriage with Akshay Kumar, this ended relationship: Suneel Darshan

Akshay Kumar and Shilpa Shetty shared a close romantic bond in the 1990s, but the couple parted ways a few years later. In a new interview, Akshay’s longtime collaborator, filmmaker Suneel Darshan, shared that Shilpa and Akshay were on the verge of getting married, but Shilpa’s parents had a few terms and conditions before they could bless the couple’s union. Suneel implied that their demands were not met, which probably became another reason for the couple’s breakup.

Suneel, in a chat with Bollywood Thikana, shared that the two were a “good looking couple” but “destiny has its own plans.” Suneel said that he had previously heard that an astrologer close to Twinkle Khanna’s father, Rajesh Khanna, had predicted that Akshay and Twinkle would get married but at the time, Suneel did not take it seriously, “They had nothing to do with each other at the time.” He added, “Look at the coincidence, had Shilpa’s parents not placed those conditions, life would have taken a different turn.” When asked about the conditions, Suneel said, “As parents, whatever the parents need for the security of their daughter. That’s not wrong”

When asked if he was talking about financial security, Suneel said, “Security of all kinds, all parents want that.” He quickly added that it was not correct for Shilpa’s parents to have such demands and said, “I thought it was wrong of the parents. It was not destined to happen. Let’s look at it that way.”

The break-up happened shortly before the shoot of Ek Rishta, and when asked if Akshay was heartbroken at the time, Suneel said, “His heart was not broken. I thought he was doing well. He was coming back.” Suneel said that Akshay was overwhelmed with work then as he was working on Dhadkan and Hera Pheri, along with Ek Rishta.

Akshay and Twinkle got married in 2001, and are now parents to two children. Shilpa married Raj Kundra in 2009, and they are also parents to two kids.
