With the Ferozeshah Kotla unlikely to be in the running after Sundays abandoned one-dayer,the Eden Gardens is now in the running to to host one of the two India-South Africa Test matches.

South Africa are scheduled to tour India in February-March next year for three one-day internationals and two Test matches.

The VCA stadium in Nagpur is now almost certain to host the first Test,as well as a practice match preceding it.

Biswarup Dey,a member of the BCCIs tours and fixture committee, pointed out that Kolkata and Nagpur should get the two Tests. What happened in Delhi is unfortunate. If one is to go by the BCCIs rotation policy,Kolkata and Nagpur should be the two choices. At this stage, all I can say is their chances are bright, he told The Indian Express.

Eden last hosted a Test match back in December 2007,when India and Pakistan played out a dull,high-scoring draw. If Kolkata gets to host the South Africa Test,it would be two international matches for the venue in a span of just three months. The stadium is currently undergoing complete revamp and as in the recent Lanka ODI,only half the stands can be used.
