Andy Murray commences US Open title defence with dominant win

Andy Murray opened the defence of his US Open title with a masterly 6-2 6-4 6-3 thrashing.

Andy Murray opened the defence of his U.S. Open title with a masterly 6-2 6-4 6-3 thrashing of France8217;s Michael Llodra on Arthur Ashe Stadium court on Wednesday.

Wimbledon champion Murray had grumbled about being forced to wait until the third day of the championship to play his first round match and the Briton was delayed further after four hours of rain delays had stalled proceedings at Flushing Meadows. Once he took to the court, however, the third-seeded Scot had no desire to hang around as he demolished the 49th ranked Llodra in 98 minutes.

The world number three8217;s only lapse was when he allowed the Frenchman to break his serve in the second game of the second set.

Murray, who made only five unforced errors in the one-sided encounter, faced just two break points while converting a tidy five-of-seven.

The Scot8217;s second-round opponent will be Leonardo Mayer of Argentina,a 7-6 4 6-4 3-6 7-6 4 winner against Romania8217;s Victor Hanescu.
