Sambalpur Election Result 2024: Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Dharmendra Pradhan has retained the Sambalpur Lok Sabha seat in Odisha, defeating his Biju Janata Dal (BJD) rival Pranab Prakash Das by a substantial margin of 1,19,836 votes.
According to the official results by ECI, Pradhan secured 5,92,162 votes, while Das managed to garner 4,72,326 votes, underscoring Pradhan’s strong hold over the constituency and the BJP’s ability to put up a formidable challenge to the ruling BJD in Odisha.
Sambalpur Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 21 Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituencies in Odisha state in eastern India. This constituency covers the whole Sambalpur district and parts of Deogarh and Angul districts. It is a General Category Parliament seat and has seven Assembly segments.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the candidates in the electoral fray included Dharmendra Pradhan from the BJP, a Union Minister and former Rajya Sabha member; Pranab Prakash Das from the BJD, a three-time MLA from Jajpur; and Nagendra Kumar Pradhan from the INC, a former MP.
The voter turnout in Sambalpur for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was 76.57%, slightly lower than the 76.72% turnout in the 2019 elections. According to India Today-Axis My India exit polls, the BJP is predicted to win the Sambalpur Lok Sabha seat, with Dharmendra Pradhan likely to secure a significant margin over the BJD candidate.
Reflecting on the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP candidate Nitesh Ganga Deb won the seat by defeating BJD candidate Nalini Kanta Pradhan by 9,162 votes. The voter turnout was 76.57%, with 11,26,662 votes cast.
