Upon his arrival to Washington DC on Wednesday evening for a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with a grand welcome by the Indian diaspora who braved the cold winds and rain to catch a glimpse of the Indian leader in the American capital.

PM Modi was greeted outside the Blair House where he will be staying for his two day trip to the United States. Blair House is the official guest lodging of the US which hosts heads of state and world leaders and is reserved for the dignitaries visiting the President of the United States.

In a post on X, PM Modi expressed his gratitude towards the Indian diaspora and wrote “A warm reception in the winter chill! Despite the cold weather, the Indian diaspora in Washington DC has welcomed me with a very special welcome. My gratitude to them.”

PM Modi is among the very few world leaders to have been invited to the White House, only weeks after President Trump took the office for the second time. Trump has hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and Jordan’s King Abdullah II till now.

The meeting with Trump comes at a time when Trump has trained his gun at India over trade tariffs and sent at least 104 Indian citizens back to the country, declaring them “illegal migrants”. The US president has warned of reciprocal tariffs and the uncertainty in global market sustains due to the announcement.
