Nibin Maxwell, a 31-year-old Indian national from Kerala, was killed in an anti-tank missile strike near the Israel-Lebanon border in northern Israel on Monday, March 4th.

Two others, also from Kerala – Paul Melvin and Bush Joseph George, both from Idukki – were also injured after the missile hit a moshav, an agricultural community, on Monday afternoon.

Who is Nibin Maxwell?

Originally from Kerala, Nibin Maxwell, had previously pursued opportunities abroad,  and had worked with a manpower supply firm in the UAE.

However, he decided to relocate to Israel when the country opened agricultural visas for Indian workers. He made this move just two months before the anti-tank missile strike, in which he was killed.

Maxwell, who held an industrial training certificate, sought better prospects in Israel to support his family, including his pregnant wife and their five-year-old child.

Maxwell’s decision to move to Israel was facilitated by his brother-in-law, who worked as a caregiver in the country. After Maxwell’s departure, his brother Nivin also followed suit, seeking employment in the agricultural sector.

The family believed that Israel offered better opportunities for their livelihood.

Tragically, Maxwell’s dreams and aspirations were cut short by the cowardly terror attack perpetrated by the Shia terror organisation Hezbollah. His father, Antony Maxwell, recounted how Nibin had informed them of another airstrike nearby just weeks before the fatal incident.

In response to his death, the Israeli embassy in India condemned the attack and offered condolences to Maxwell’s family. Naor Gilon, Israel’s ambassador to India, personally reached out to Maxwell’s brother, assuring him of all possible assistance during this difficult time.
