Delhi Health Minister Dr Pankaj Singh on Saturday said all government hospitals have been directed to submit daily reports on their available stocks of medicine as well as weekly compliance reports to ensure they are prepared in case of a surge in cases of respiratory illnesses.

The statement comes after The Indian Express, on December 19, highlighted shortage of drugs to treat respiratory illnesses at Lok Nayak Hospital – the Delhi government’s largest healthcare facility. The report said the hospital is facing a shortfall of essential respiratory medicines and supplies, including nebuliser solutions, cough syrups, multivitamins and several inhalers, forcing many patients to purchase expensive drugs from private pharmacies.
