A video showing several police officers cheating during a legal test in Bhagphar, Uttar Pradesh, has triggered a controversy on social media. According to The Logical Indian, the test, organised by Superintendent of Police (SP) Suraj Kumar Rai, was meant to ensure that only competent officers were appointed to key positions.
Shared by an Instagram handle @thewhatup, the viral video shows several inspectors and sub-inspectors openly copying from notes and helping each other inside the examination hall. The footage quickly went viral, drawing sharp criticism from the public and raising questions about the police department’s commitment to law enforcement and accountability.

The video drew strong criticism, with several users condemning the act. “Then they are sent to guard the state govt Board exam centres,” a user wrote. “Cheating with full police protection,” another user commented. “Their legal knowledge speaks ‘cheating is right’,” a third user reacted.
“Operation cheating,” a fourth user commented.
The backlash has prompted senior officials to initiate a departmental inquiry and vow strict action against those involved, the report said.
Responding to the incident, SP Suraj Kumar Rai said, “Ukt prakaran mein APS Baghpat ko jaanch ke liye nirdeshit kiya gaya hai,” indicating that the Additional Superintendent of Police in Baghpat has been tasked with conducting a detailed investigation, the report said.
In June, the Madhya Pradesh Police launched an investigation into the conduct of the 2023 police constable recruitment examination. The Indian Express reported that several FIRs were filed across the state on allegations that candidates manipulated the Aadhaar-based biometrics to cheat by getting proxy candidates to take the examination on their behalf.
