The undated video shows a bear walking towards a tiger. Interestingly, instead of moving out of the bear’s way or attacking it, the tiger crouches on the ground and refuses to move even as the bear stands on its hind legs as a show of aggression. The bear then moves away to the sidelines, probably after sensing human presence, while the tiger stays still.

The video documenting the strange interaction between the two wild animals was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by IFS officer Sandeep Tripathi.

On Sunday, IFS officer Ramesh Pandey reposted this and tried to make sense of the bear and the tiger’s behaviour. He wrote, “The hypotheses to put forth: 1. Tiger is a striped monk. 2. Bears do have poor eye sight as believed. Worth observing the animal behaviour including of humans.”

Commenting on it, an X user wrote, “Very interesting video, perhaps teaches us how to behave in wild. I have 2 hypotheses: the tiger either tried to evade the bear’s eyesight or it tried to communicare that it has submitted itself (observed this in dogs very often). Given sloth bears have good olfaction & the tiger is also very near, I believe the tiger instinctively reacted by submitting itself to bear.”

Another person wrote, “What a scene! Human should learn. This Tiger was so submissive but made his strong presence felt. The story of a Tiger and a Bear! Happy ending. 3.44 and i have two stories to write, so it becomes 6. I have reached a compromise with ST so a part of me is excited about the change. Touchwood but i feel so loved here and that is not enough.”
