Popular chef Suresh Pillai recently shared a heartwarming incident in which his team was able to help relocate the family members of one of their employees from conflict-ridden Manipur to Kerala.

In a now-viral post, the celebrity chef noted that a few weeks ago the “General Manager at RCP Kochi noticed that Susmitha, one of our service staff looked unnaturally gloomy during service. Unnatural because within 7 months of her joining the team, she had excelled at her job and even won the ‘Best Employee’ award thrice already!”.

When the manager asked Susmitha about her low demeanour, she revealed that she is worried about her mother and sister who are stuck at conflict-ridden Manipur. She explained that her family depends on her income and the dire circumstances of her home state were worrying her.

When this news reached Chef Pillai, he and his team arranged to bring Susmitha’s mother and sister to Kochi and helped them with accommodation. Once they were settled down, Mrs Ibemcha Devi (Susmitha’s mother) and Ms Sarfi Devi (Susmitha’s sister) interviewed for jobs at the Kochi restaurant.

Despite only knowing how to speak Manipuri, the duo started working at RCP Kochi kitchen – the sibling as a trainee chef and the mom as an assistant in the helping staff.

“Within a couple of weeks, they learnt everything about their jobs and picked this up with such pace, much to our surprise!” the award-winning chef wrote in an Instagram post.

Chef Pillai also shared a picture of Susmitha with her mother and sister at his restaurant RCP Kochi and concluded, “Now, the family is happily living and working together. I had the opportunity to meet them yesterday and honestly, their smiles made my day!”
