Watch: 21-year-old creates history as he solves Rubik’s cube in 3 seconds

The niche world of competitive speed cubbing was left in awe when 21-year-old Max Park solved a 3x3x3 rotating puzzle cube in 3.13 seconds.

With this, he created the world record for the fastest time to solve a 3x3x3 rotating puzzle cube. Max’s attempt was 0.34 seconds faster than the previous record set by China’s Yusheng Du in 2018.

A video that shows Max’s record-breaking moment is going viral. The video, posted by Max on Twitter, shows him looking at a cube for a few seconds before the timer goes on. He then solves the cube with lightning speed and screams a victorious ‘Yes’ as he slams the solved cube on the table. The whole venue erupts in cheers as his fellow competitors crowd around his table.

Commenting on this video, a Twitter user wrote, “Kid here solving a Rubik’s cube in 3.13 seconds and I’m still occasionally mistaking the Colgate and Anusol tubes.” Another person remarked, “I love the purity of everyone else’s reactions. It’s a competition but they’re still thrilled for the guy”.

Max broke this record at the Pride in Long Beach 2023, held in California, USA, on June 11.

While talking with the Guinness World Records, Max’s parents, Schawn and Miki, said that Max has autism and he finds cubing therapeutic. “There was a time when Max couldn’t even open water bottles, but he showed interest in solving Rubik’s Cubes,” they said.

In 2020, Netflix released a documentary titled The Speed Cubers that featured Max and his close friend and speedcubing enthusiast Feliks Zemdegs.
