More than a dozen vehicles, including cars and trucks, rammed into each other on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) in Greater Noida on Saturday morning after dense fog and smog reduced visibility, said Noida Police officials on Saturday. No injuries were reported.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Station House Officer, Dadri, Arun Kumar said the accident occurred between 8 and 9 am because of poor visibility due to fog. “Around 12 vehicles, including cars and trucks, collided with each other on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway,” he said.

The EPE is a 135-km-long, six-lane corridor that passes through Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

The district Traffic Police, meanwhile, issued an advisory for the maximum speed limit on several routes from December 15 to February 15:

Yamuna Expressway

– Light motor vehicles: 75 km per hour

– Heavy motor vehicles: 60 km per hour

Noida-Greater Noida Expressway

-Light motor vehicles: 75 km per hour

-Heavy motor vehicles: 50 km per hour

Noida Elevated Road

-Light motor vehicles: 50 km per hour

-Heavy motor vehicles: 40 km per hour

Photos of the pile-up had emerged on social media, showing a white car atop the central divider with its bonnet badly crushed, while a truck stood nearby. Another car appeared to be wedged under a truck. Several vehicles were scattered across lanes.

Police and toll management teams rushed to the spot and began clearing the damaged vehicles using cranes to restore traffic movement. The Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate confirmed that police personnel were present at the scene and that an investigation was underway.

In a statement, Noida Police officials said that two separate road accidents occurred on the EPE within the Dadri police station area due to dense fog. “Three vehicles collided on the Chakrasenpur flyover, and approximately a dozen vehicles were involved in a multi-vehicle collision on the Samadhipur flyover. Upon receiving information about the incidents, the police immediately reached the scene, removed all damaged vehicles from the road, and moved them to a safe location. Fortunately, there were no casualties in these accidents. Traffic is flowing normally. Necessary legal action is being taken,” the statement read.
