A post shared by @kirawontmiss on X with a screenshot of a conversation between an employee––who survived a severe car crash––and their manager has gone viral with over 22 million views. The manager's cold response to the employee, who shared the photo of his crushed car, has upsetted a lot of X users. Instead of expressing concern for the employee's well-being, the manager’s response was: “Keep me updated on what time you’re expecting to be here.” Noticing the employee did not respond, the manager followed up saying, "It’s understandable why you would be late, but regardless anything that prevents you from being at the workplace other than a death in the family is unexcused at any company." See the post: what would y’all respond with if your manager says this? pic.twitter.com/bZznlPZrLT — kira 👾 (@kirawontmiss) October 22, 2024 The lack of empathy in the exchange left people furious, sparking discussions about workplace culture and the treatment of employees in difficult situations. One user responded saying, “Managers like this scare me, like is your life that miserable?!” Another individual shared his own such anecdote, “I told my manager i had covid and he said he didn’t believe me.” An individual who claimed to be a manager of some company came in favour of the employee and wrote, “Traditionally, I have been the manager. I would never say anything like that. It would be more like 'Oh god, are you ok? Don't worry about your shift, I will find coverage - make sure you're ok!' I can say that with confidence, since that exact situation has happened.”
