There was at least one suspect who fled the scene, the report added.
At least two people were killed and several others were injured in a shooting in Salt Lake City, Utah, in the US on Wednesday evening, local police told broadcaster ABC News.
The shooting occurred at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel during a funeral and left six people injured, ABC News reported. At least one suspect fled the scene and police have launched a manhunt. No individual has been taken into custody so far.
Authorities do not believe the shooting was targeting a religion, Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Redd said. “We believe this was not a random incident,” Redd told news agency Reuters.
Mayor Erin Mendenhall also expressed her condolences saying, “This should never have happened outside a place of worship. This should never have happened outside a celebration of life.”
