Two days after the announcement, YouTube sensation Jimmy aka MrBeast has hinted at the possibility of acquiring the app for American users.
The social media star shared that many billionaires have approached him with offers to help facilitate the purchase, as the platform must be sold by its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, by January 19, 2025, to avoid an outright ban in the United States of America. “Okay fine, I’ll buy TikTok so it doesn’t get banned,” he wrote on X.
On Wednesday, MrBeast shared a video on TikTok pleading with the company to let him save the application for millions of its users in the US. “Just got out of a meeting with a bunch of billionaires. TikTok, we mean business… we have an offer ready for you, we want to buy the platform. America deserves TikTok. Give me a seat at the table,” MrBeast said in the video, igniting a frenzy among his fans.

In 2023, President Joe Biden enacted legislation that would prohibit TikTok in the US if its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, does not sell the app by January 19, 2024. If ByteDance fails to comply, TikTok will be blocked in the US, and it will be illegal for app stores and internet hosting services to offer the platform. The Supreme Court still holds the authority to block the ban, though several reports indicate that the justices are likely to support the federal law in question.
Recently, Trump has shown interest in “saving” TikTok himself, urging the Supreme Court to temporarily halt the ban. Last week, the Court heard arguments with the platform, which argued that the ban would violate Americans’ First Amendment rights.
