Apple and Google are making it easier to switch between iOS and Android: Here’s how

In a rather surprising turn of events, Apple and Google are working together on a new feature that makes it easy for users to switch from Android to iOS and vice versa.

Apple and Google are two of the biggest names in tech, and they’re usually on opposite sides. But in a rare move, the companies now appear to be working together to make switching between Android and iOS much easier.

According to a new report by 9to5Google, the latest Android Canary build, which is basically a beta version, hints at a new feature that makes it easy to switch from Android to iOS during the setup phase. It goes on to say that the feature is also expected to soon make an appearance in a future iOS 26 developer beta.

Eventually, the feature will be available on both Android and iOS during the setup process after updates to both platforms. While the report does say that the switching process “will add more functionality and support for additional data types that are transferred over”, neither Apple nor Google seems to have shared details about the same.

During AndroidAuthority’s APK teardown, the publication discovered that the new feature will help users transfer things like photos, videos, SMS, documents, downloads, WhatsApp chat history, audio files, voice memos, notes, call history and more. However, since the functionality is still in early stages of development, things may change down the line.

This data type can be transferred from Android to iOS, but there’s a good chance it would work the other way round as well. Also, it remains to be seen if the feature would work over Wi-Fi or require users to connect their devices with a USB-C cable. As of now, both Apple and Google have their respective apps called Switch to Android and Switch to iOS for making the process easier, but it looks like the collaboration aims to make it even easier to transfer all sorts of data from one device to another.
