Samsung Galaxy S8 may not come with dual-camera setup, says report

After Apple introduced the iPhone 7 Plus with a dual-camera setup in September this year, it was said that Samsung would follow in the footsteps of the Cupertino giant. Players like Huawei, Xiaomi and LG already have a number of smartphones that feature a dual-camera setup. The dual-lens has a number of advantages. The Huawei P9 (it features two 12MP cameras) for one, can take great monochrome (black & white) shots and has the ability to add the ‘bokeh’ effect (depth of field) to your photos.

A few weeks back, Samsung Vice Chairman, Lee Jae-yong said that the Galaxy S8 would feature an “improved camera”, although he didn’t go into specifics. The question that still remains unanswered is why Samsung would stick with a single camera module when most of its other competitors have already adopted a dual-camera setup.

It wasn’t too long ago when Samsung announced that it would lose billions in sales after it killed off the Galaxy Note 7 after it cancelled the programme, failing to find the reason behind the smartphones catching fire and exploding. Samsung is now facing pressure to deliver a non-controversial smartphone next year.

Earlier rumours around the Galaxy S8 point at a premium smartphone that will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor , feature 6GB RAM and come with up to 256GB of internal memory. The phone is also expected to get a new home button placement. The phone is rumoured to come in two screen sizes – a 5.5-inches version and a 6.2-inch version.

As all of these are mere speculations, we urge our readers to wait for Samsung to officially announce the Galaxy S8 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next year.
