Indian wicket-keeper twice tried to stump out West Indian all-rounder Jason Holder similar to the controversial dismissal of Jonny Bairstow by Alex Carey in the ongoing Ashes series.

In the 31st over of the innings Holder was beaten by Ravindra Jadeja’s delivery and Kishan waited for Holder to move out of the crease and took the bails off.

The decision was sent upstairs to the third umpire and on replays it showed that Holder did not lift his feet but just dragged it.

The debutant tried it again in the 33rd over when Holder did move outside the crease. However, the umpires informed Kishan that the over was called hence it is not out.

The second attempt was more reminiscent of what has happened in the second Test at Lords in the Ashes on the final day. Chasing 371 Bairstow along with skipper Ben Stokes (155) was about to forge a partnership at a crucial stage of the game.

However, when he ducked at a slow bouncer from Cameron Green and then ventured out of the crease thinking that the ball was already ‘dead’, keeper Carey played within the rules and broke the stumps. Third umpire Marais Erasmus adjudged it stumped in favour of Australia.

A dazed Bairstow walked back but an unhappy England captain after the game didn’t appreciate the Australian tactic as he felt that they clearly knew Bairstow hadn’t ventured out in pursuit of trying to steal a run.
