Reason behind IndiGo flight disruption
As per news agency PTI, the country’s largest airline, Indigo, cancelled more than 100 flights on Wednesday, at different airports. The operational issues because of crew shortage, led to schedule adjustments and cancellations for the next 48 hours to normalise again.
Indigo is India’s largest airline, accounting for over 60 per cent of India’s domestic air traffic. It has been hit hard by crew shortages after the new Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) came into play. These account for the new crew rest and duty rules, ensuring the staff gets ample rest time.
However, the airline has been caught napping with over 200 Indigo flights being cancelled on Wednesday and similar experience being reported by flyers on Thursday. Only 19.7 per cent of its flights operated on time on Wednesday, down from 35 per cent on Tuesday, and around 50 per cent on Monday.
