Mohali drug capsule seizure case: Convict sentenced to 12 years in jail; 2 accused declared proclaimed offenders

The case dates back to June 9, 2021, when the Laldu police intercepted three youths during a naka near Jharmari on the Ambala–Chandigarh highway. The trio, who were walking, attempted to flee on seeing the police but were swiftly apprehended. They were later identified as Ranjit Singh, Sunny Kumar, and Rahul Kumar.

In the presence of senior police officers, a search of Rahul Kumar’s bag led to the recovery of 2,560 intoxicant capsules. From Ranjit Singh’s bag, the police seized 1,912 drug capsules along with 800 capsules of another restricted pharmaceutical brand. A search of the paper envelope Sunny Kumar was carrying yielded 3,000 intoxicant tablets and 2,400 tablets of a different company.

The Lalru police had registered a case against all three under the NDPS Act and arrested them. After a prolonged trial, the court has now convicted Ranjit Singh while declaring both his absconding accomplices as proclaimed offenders.
