Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee said on Tuesday that the imposition of President’s rule in West Bengal was not required as the people would vote out the CPM-led Left Front government.
“We don’t want to oust CPI-M through imposition of President’s rule. The people will do so through democratic means,” she told a public meeting at Sonachura in Nandigram.
“It will take only a minute to dislodge the killer CPI-M government, but ballots and democracy will say the last word and not bullets being used by the ruling party to terrorise people,” she said.
Banerjee, who visited Nandigram for the first time after assuming charge as Railway Minister, said,”The Marxist government will be wiped out in the next assembly election in the state.”
The Trinamool supremo who has been urging the Centre to withdraw central forces from West Midnapore, demanded army deployment “to silence the Maoists and recover the huge quantity of arms stockpiled by CPI-M.”
“Who said I don’t want joint operations? But in the name of joint operation against Maoists,CPI-M is trying to gain control of areas,” Banerjee said.
She alleged that CPI-M had captured Keshpur in West Midnapore with Maoist help and demanded that police should take action against both Maoists and the CPI-M who were equally to be blamed for the violence.
“If killing by the Maoists is an offence the same is applicable to CPI-M which is unleashing violence,” she said. Stating that West Bengal had witnessed the highest number of political killings, she pointed fingers at the CPI(M) for the clash at Nanoor in Birbhum district during the day.
“When I asked police to take action, they replied that they were unable to enter the area. If the police could enter Nandigram to kill people on March 14,2007,why can’t they arrest CPI-M attackers?”
“The chief minister has asked the police not to take action till the CPI-M operation is over,” she claimed. The railway minister said she had taken up the violence in Nanoor with Union Home minister P Chidambaram.
The CPI-M,she said, instead of fighting politically was taking to guns out of sheer desperation as the people had dumped them in election after election and the Marxists could be sure of defeat in the next assembly poll.
