‘RSP’s exit from LDF pre-planned’

The RSP snapped its over three-decade-long ties with CPM-led LDF over denial of Kollam seat to contest in the Lok Sabha polls.

Days after the RSP quit the Left Democratic Front and joined the Congress-led UDF in Kerala, CPM general secretary Prakash Karat said it seemed more like a “pre-planned” move which went beyond seat sharing issues.

The RSP snapped its over three-decade-long ties with CPM-led LDF over denial of Kollam seat to contest in the Lok Sabha polls.

The RSP has announced it will support the Congress-led UPA at the Centre. “It seems RSP had prior discussions with the Congress and it was a pre-planned move,” Karat told The Indian Express on Tuesday. Karat added there was a “history behind this” and RSP had gone with the Congress in Kerala in early 1970s as well. He said this will make a “marginal difference” to them since it is an extremely “localized phenomenon”.

Kollam seat was won by Congress in the last Lok Sabha election and the CPM in 2004.
