Mamata evades sugarcane pricing issue

Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee refused to publicly air her views on the sugarcane price issue,but she made it known that her party is 'pro-farmer'.

Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee refused to publicly air her views on the sugarcane price issue,saying she will convey her party’s stand to the UPA not outside.

“I am pro-farmer,my party is pro-farmer. But I am with the UPA so whatever I would say,I would do is in the UPA and not outside UPA,” the Trinamool Congress chief told reporters.

On the land acquisition Bill,she maintained that she would make her stand clear to the UPA. Asked about the reported statement of her party MP Kabir Suman resigning from Trinamool Congress,she said: “I have nothing to say.”

Suman was conspicuous by his absence in Parliament on Thursday.

However,Trinamool MP and Minister of State for Shipping Mukul Roy said Suman will attend the session soon. Meanwhile,all five newly elected Trinamool MLAs from Arunachal Pradesh met Banerjee on Thursday.
